Grab unveiled a VND2.95 trillion ($115 million) support package in Vietnam. The move follows a regulatory review and aims to make rides cheaper for passengers while improving earnings for drivers.
The package directs VND1.808 trillion ($70.67 million), more than 61 percent, to passenger promotions. At the same time, VND860 billion ($33.62 million), about 29 percent, is set aside for driver bonuses and financial support.
Starting 10 November, Grab will cut platform fees by VND1,000‑2,000 ($0.04‑0.08) on certain short‑distance trips and cap its total share of passenger payments at 32 percent. Because of these fee‑structure changes, Grab expects its revenue to fall by around VND227 billion ($8.87 million).
According to the National Competition Commission, the minimum share of fares retained by GrabBike drivers will rise from 52 percent to 60.59 percent, and GrabCar drivers will keep at least 59.68 percent. These new minimum rates are intended to raise drivers’ baseline earnings.
In short, passengers should see slightly lower fares on short trips, while drivers will keep a larger part of each ride. Grab expects a modest revenue dip of about VND227 billion ($8.87 million).
