Hoi An, one of Vietnam’s most visited coastal towns, is intensifying its enforcement of signage regulations. Understanding these new rules is crucial for both local businesses and visitors who want to avoid fines.
Businesses in Hoi An are removing or modifying signboards that breach the rule requiring Vietnamese text alongside any foreign language. The change aims to avoid penalties.
Local authorities have stepped up inspections across Hoi An’s three wards, concentrating on establishments that cater to international tourists and display signs in English or Chinese. Inspectors are checking whether the required Vietnamese translation is present and legible.
As of Friday, officials in Hoi An Dong Ward reported 59 violations and ordered the owners to correct their signs. The inspections will continue until the end of the year, and businesses that ignore the orders may face fines or forced removal of the offending signs.
The crackdown shows that compliance with the Vietnamese language requirement is now a priority for the city. Continued monitoring means that shop owners and tourists alike should expect stricter enforcement throughout the remainder of the year.
