A sea turtle that was about 80 years old and weighed more than 50 kg was found dead on Trung Giang Beach in Quang Tri Province. Learning how to act when a protected animal is found can help protect Vietnam’s coast.
Police in Ben Hai Commune said that police and local residents buried the dead turtle to keep the beach clean. The police also told people not to hunt, trap, capture, transport, keep or trade wild animals, especially endangered species.
Earlier, on October 28, a local resident named Phan Van Trieu rescued a hawksbill turtle that was caught in a fishing net and released it back to the sea. Police said residents should tell authorities right away when they see rare marine animals in nets or on the shore, so rescue help can be given.
The main lesson is to report any stranded or dead protected animal immediately and follow the police guidance. Quick action helps protect biodiversity and keeps the marine ecosystem healthy.
