0:03Hiya.
0:05So my name is TED.
0:09You're all very welcome to my world.
0:11And I'm going to sing you three songs.
0:16The first one is for joy,
0:19and the second one is for humanity,
0:23and the last one is for the heart.
0:27So they're really depressing, you're welcome, see ya.
0:29(Laughter)
0:34OK.
0:35(Guitar music)
0:37Alright, it's called "To my bones."
0:51[Music] We’re kissing the lips of strangers
0:54We're hugging whoever next we meet
0:58Oh, life, I love you to my bones
1:04When everything's shut, we're listless
1:07Take them home and cook them dinners and sing
1:11Oh, life, I love you to my bones
1:17Dominoes and medicine
1:19A two you are and new you win
1:20Take a seat and let it grow
1:22The world will love you
1:26Woo!
1:27Elephants of memory
1:28An alphabet of chemistry
1:30All of these things have made me
1:33Roscoe and Beenie,
1:37Laughter and no TV
1:39I've got punch lines and fisticuffs
1:44And tons and tons of luck.
1:46I've got firesides and dutch gold
1:50There's no such thing as too old
1:53And my fortune is my home
1:57My home and all I know
2:01Oh, yeah, because, because
2:06oh, life, I love you to my bones
2:09Oh, life, I love you to my bones
2:13Oh, life, I love you to my bones
2:16Oh, life, I love to my bones
2:19Oh, life, I love you to my bones
2:23Oh, life, I love you to my bones
2:26Oh, life, I love you to my bones
2:29Oh, life, I love you to my bones
2:38(Music ends)
2:41Thanks very much.
2:42(Applause and cheers)
2:49Thank you again.
2:53OK, this next song is brilliant.
2:55(Laughter)
2:59It's called "As the River Flows."
3:01And it's in support of migrants and refugees
3:06and in defiance of racism.
3:08(Cheers and applause)
3:16[Music] And as the river flows,
3:19well you and I are made of water
3:23Surging into history
3:26Universal mystery
3:29All in all, we cannot choose
3:33The life that we were given
3:36So we move across the land
3:39To sky, to sea
3:42Looking for more than we were offered
3:45Are we not allowed?
3:48Are you still where your mother pushed you out?
3:52I doubt that this is true
3:54If you can move, then I will too
4:00To to to the land,
4:07To the sea
4:09To safety, to safety, to safety
4:13To the land
4:14to the mouth of the sea
4:16To the land
4:18To the sea
4:20To safety, to safety, to safety
4:23Overcoming mystery
4:25Overcoming mystery
4:34What are you scared of
4:36Aren't you brave enough
4:38To pave a basic decency
4:41for human kind?
4:43A baby lost its family
4:46Lost its life
4:51Don't turn your face away
4:54Don't tell me borders are for jobs and civic order
5:00When I know you see it differently
5:04You want your palette white
5:07You want it cleaned
5:13Walk a mile
5:15Walk 2,000 miles
5:18Walk 3,000 miles to to the land
5:23To the sea
5:25To safety, to safety, to safety
5:29Overcoming mystery
5:32To safety, to safety, to safety
5:35Overcoming mystery
5:42Overcoming mystery
5:45Overcoming mystery
5:48Overcoming mystery
5:52Overcoming mystery
5:56Overcoming mystery
5:59Overcoming mystery
6:03Overcoming mystery
6:06Overcoming mystery
6:09Overcoming mystery
6:28To safety, to safety, to safety
6:30To safety, to safety, to safety
6:33To safety, to safety, to safety
6:35To safety, to safety, to safety
6:38To safety, to safety, to safety
6:40To safety, to safety, to safety
6:45(Cheers and applause)
6:56Wow.
6:58Thank you so much.
7:01I would like to invite my lovely partner on stage for this,
7:04Tracey K, please come on stage.
7:07(Applause)
7:13This one is for your heart.
7:15(Guitar music)
7:19Well, I’ll tell you the truth
7:23As I only do, my friend
7:31I'll been living my youth
7:35As I live till my end
7:38My friend
7:43I've been battered and bruised
7:46But it's only a few that have stayed or left
7:53And that's nothing a hammer
7:56A nail or my mind couldn't cure
8:03But I've left people hang
8:06On a stick or a word
8:08If their grip grew tight
8:13All the bottles of battles
8:16The beds that I've shared they're all mine
8:21But the more you hold on to me
8:27The less you can have of me
8:34The more you hold on to me
8:39The less I am yours to keep
8:52Yet the more you hold on to me
8:58I'll try not to leave.
9:05Peace on earth.
9:06Thank you so much.
9:08(Cheers and applause)
9:18Hello everybody, my name is Jacob Collier,
9:20and I am this year's music curator for TED.
9:22And the musician you just heard, Wallis Bird,
9:24is one of my dearest musical companions.
9:26She is crazy.
9:27I don't know how you felt, but the first time I heard Wallis sing,
9:30I had tears and goosebumps.
9:32She's like a roof-raising musician.
9:33She accompanied me on tour, opening for some shows a couple of years ago,
9:37and I knew then what I know now,
9:39which is that she possesses that rare gift that not many musicians possess,
9:42which is the ability to win over any crowd with her totally wild energy,
9:46her joy, and her colors.
9:47Her voice to me is like this chameleon.
9:51It can change color, it can change shape, it's stretchy.
9:53It's this magnificent instrument of joy.
9:56And I think one of my favorite moments of the talk you just witnessed
9:59was that moment where she goes higher and higher and higher,
10:02and the energy just builds and builds and builds.
10:04She really is unlike any musician I know.
10:06Hope you enjoyed. Lots of love, cheerio, bye.
