Cars are on the track for practice after a bumpy start to Markham's first IndyCar race.

Doors opened at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. Practice sessions started soon after.

Drivers got the green flag on Friday evening to drive the next morning.

No cars drove on the new track on Friday.

The cancellation was for safety and to finish checking the new track.

Organizers said sorry to fans who came to the Free Fan Friday event.

Many fans came to the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham. Organizers appreciated their support.

Races start at 1 p.m. after morning practice. The USF2000 Championship and NASCAR Canada Series will run.

The Glorious Sons will perform live after the NTT INDYCAR Series qualifying round.

More races are on Sunday. The 90-lap Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham race is at 12:22 p.m.

Markham has never hosted an IndyCar race before. It used to be in Toronto.

The city and IndyCar partnered last September. A temporary track was built this week.
