Thailand Inspects Hotels on Big Island

Deputy Minister Polapee Suwunchwee checked three hotels in Phuket. They did not have the right papers to build or operate.

The officials also checked online bookings and found these hotels mainly sold rooms to foreign tourists.

The investigation found some hotels had foreign and Thai owners, but were run by Chinese investors without the right licenses.

The government checked over 10 places in Phuket and told businesses to close if they did not have the right papers.

A government official said running a hotel without a license is against the law and causes many problems.

This problem hurts the economy, poses safety risks to tourists, and damages Thailand's image in the tourism sector.

The government is working with the police and other agencies to investigate foreign businesses in Thailand.

Thailand will start a new system to detect fake businesses on August 1, which will check company records and financial statements.

The government wants to stop illegal investors, but still welcomes legitimate foreign investment.
