Incheon International Airport’s restroom near Gate 225 in Terminal 2 won a national award for the most beautiful restroom. The prize shows that even a bathroom can be important for travelers.

The restroom has floor‑to‑ceiling windows that look out on planes taking off and landing. It also has facilities for people with disabilities, family restrooms and baby‑toddler amenities, which are part of a universal design. The competition, run by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Korea Restroom Culture Association, judges restrooms on cleanliness, convenience, safety, design and maintenance.

Bae Young‑min, head of infrastructure at Incheon International Airport Corporation, said restrooms are a key touchpoint where users directly see cleanliness and service levels. The competition received 74 entries and winners were announced on Nov 3 at the Seoul Museum of History. Other winners included BEXCO, which took the gold prize, and stations that use AI or solar‑powered designs.

Because travelers notice the bathroom first, a high‑quality design reflects the airport’s overall service standards. Good restroom design helps passengers feel the airport is clean, safe and well cared for.
