How Uber Eats' New Drone Delivery Works
Each Zipline drone can carry up to eight pounds of food. It can travel up to ten miles at about 70 miles per hour. The drone does not land; instead it stays in the air while a small box is lowered on a rope. The box reaches the ground and releases the food, a process that takes about 90 seconds.
Zipline has completed more than 2.7 million deliveries so far. It works with retailers such as Walmart and with several restaurants. The American air safety agency has already approved some of the drone flights.
