Why Calgary’s First X Games Could Boost the Economy and Inspire Young Athletes

WinSport’s Canada Olympic Park will host the X Games from Feb. 19‑21, 2027, delivering three days of world‑class skiing and snowboarding to Calgary.

This marks the first time in the 31‑year history of the X Games that the competition will be held in Canada, a historic milestone for the country’s action‑sports scene.

“X Games is one of those events you dream of hosting in your city,” said Tourism Calgary president and CEO Alisha Reynolds. “There is truly no better city than Calgary to host this electrifying event.”

Officials estimate that 15,000‑20,000 spectators will attend the three‑day competition, filling the venue with fans from across North America and beyond.

Reynolds estimates the event will generate roughly $25 million for Calgary’s visitor economy, boosting hotels, restaurants and local businesses.

Freestyle skier Brendan Mackay, a Calgary native, said the X Games in his hometown is a huge career‑defining moment. “That was honestly for me a huge career‑defining moment,” he said, adding, “So I think having that come to Calgary will be so impactful on all the young kids who get to go out and watch it.”

Professional snowboarder Craig McMorris also welcomed the event, noting, “Canada has exported the best action sports talent in the entire world — full stop,” and adding, “It’s finally now our time to host the X Games.”

The expected visitor spending and the excitement of local athletes suggest the Calgary X Games could raise the city’s international profile while giving Canadian youth a chance to see elite competition up close.
