Teen Driver in Saskatoon Crash Awaits Sentence
A teenager who drove in a fiery crash in Saskatoon is waiting for their sentence.
The lawyers finished talking about the sentence and shared more about the bad injuries an 82-year-old man got in the crash.
The government lawyers want the teenager to be in a secure place for 10 months, then be supervised for 5 months, and have 12 months of probation.
The government lawyer said it was a very bad incident because someone was hurt before the car was stolen, and the driver was seriously hurt.
The teenager's lawyer wants the teenager to only serve the time they already have, then have 2 years of probation and a curfew.
The lawyer says the teenager's new diagnoses of autism and opposition defiant disorder contributed to their actions.
The teenager admitted to stealing a car in Prince Albert and driving it to Saskatoon.
The teenager lost control of the car on Idylwyld Drive, went into oncoming traffic, and crashed into a van.
The 82-year-old man driving the van got very bad burns and most of his clothes melted into his skin.
He also had a broken leg, pelvis, and ribs, and was bleeding inside and had organ damage.
He was taken to a hospital in Edmonton in very bad condition and is still there.
A 24-year-old man who was in the stolen car pleaded guilty and got time served as his sentence.
The teenager's sentence will be decided on Friday.
