Airport officials said they saw Caramel in the cargo hold when the plane arrived at Toronto Pearson International Airport. The cat escaped onto the ramp near Terminal 3 and ran toward gates 29‑30.
On Wednesday night, an airport worker told the wildlife team where the cat was last seen. Using that tip, the team searched a cargo facility at Pearson and safely captured Caramel.
Darcia Rohlehr, CEO of pet‑transport company Paws En Route, said about four million pets travel each year and only about 0.01 % have a problem. She added that animal carriers are zip‑tied so pets cannot escape during a flight.
Caramel was found alive. Her owner called the rescue a “miracle” and said the cat should arrive in Montreal on Friday.
