Indonesia Wants to Lead ASEAN in Business Events

Indonesia's Minister of Tourism, Widiyanti Putri Wardhana, opened the Southeast Asia Business Events Forum in Jakarta, saying the country wants to be ASEAN's top business events hub with high-quality and sustainable tourism.

The business events industry helps make destinations more competitive, attracts investment, and creates value across many sectors. It's no longer just about hosting conferences and exhibitions, but also driving tourism growth.

The MICE sector is a big part of the global business events industry. In 2024, it made up about 30.75% of the industry's revenue, which was nearly $1.2 trillion. The SEABEF 2026 event brought together many officials, businesses, and media organizations on July 28-29.

Discussions at the event focused on making business events policies consistent across ASEAN, creating competitive destinations, using digital technology, and improving human resources to host international events.

The event was held with the Indonesia Business Event Mart 2026, a platform for MICE professionals to meet. It attracted around 200 buyers from 37 countries and 100 sellers from July 28 to 31.
