Sliding Through Time: Inside Tianquan Cave’s Rock‑Hugging Chute

Tianquan Cave, formed almost three million years ago, lies in the Xingwen Stone Sea Scenic Area of Yibin City. It is part of the Xingwen UNESCO Global Geopark and stretches over 10.5 km of explored passages.

To help visitors reach the massive main cavern, engineers installed a chute slide that literally hugs the natural rock wall. The slide follows the cave’s contours, slipping through tight gaps that would otherwise be difficult to traverse.

Along its route the slide is equipped with low‑profile lighting systems, illuminating the narrow crevices and highlighting the surrounding stalagmites, columns and flowstones without harming the environment.

The ride ends in the central cavern, where tourists dismount and continue on foot to deeper levels of the cave. From there they can board traditional wooden boats for a 1.5 km journey along the underground river.

By integrating the slide into the existing rock formation, the attraction offers a fast, safe way to explore the cave while preserving its natural beauty and geological value.
