Preserving Duong No Village Helps Us See Ho Chi Minh’s Childhood and Vietnam’s Heritage
From 1898 to 1900, Nguyen Sinh Cung – the childhood name of President Ho Chi Minh – lived in Duong No with his father Nguyen Sinh Sac and his older brother. The Ho Chi Minh Museum in Hue says that Nguyen Si Do invited Nguyen Sinh Sac to teach in the village and gave the family a traditional three‑compartment, two‑wing thatched house, where the father also opened a small classroom.
The house where the family lived has been kept as a memorial. It was declared a national historical and cultural relic in 1990 and was added to the system of President Ho Chi Minh memorial sites in 2020.
Today the whole heritage complex is looked after by the Ho Chi Minh Museum in Hue. The site is open to local residents and to visitors who want to learn about the past.
Keeping Duong No village safe lets people see the real environment that shaped Ho Chi Minh’s early life and also preserves an important part of Vietnam’s 19th‑century rural culture.
