Trump Signs Order to Change Birthright Citizenship
The US Supreme Court stopped Trump's previous attempt to restrict birthright citizenship. Trump called this ruling very unfortunate. The court made this decision in late June.
Trump said they are making changes because the current system is unfair.

Stephen Miller, one of Trump's advisors, said the order also aims to deny birthright citizenship to children of foreign terrorist organizations and people who work for foreign governments.
Miller said this move ensures that many people who should not get birthright citizenship will no longer be eligible.
Last year, Trump signed an order saying children born to parents in the US illegally or on temporary visas would not automatically become US citizens. The president made this decision to change the current rules.
This is part of Trump's anti-immigration agenda.
Lower courts blocked Trump's move, saying that almost everyone born in the US is a US citizen. The courts made this decision based on the Citizenship Clause of the 14th Amendment.
The Supreme Court agreed with the lower courts, saying that the Citizenship Clause applies to almost everyone born in the US.
The 14th Amendment says that all people born in the US are US citizens, except for those not subject to US jurisdiction.
The law does not apply to children of foreign diplomats, and visas can be denied if someone is coming to the US just to give birth. There are some exceptions to the law.
The Trump administration argued that the 14th Amendment was only meant for former slaves, not for children of undocumented migrants or visitors.
Trump's previous order said that people in the US illegally or on a visa are not subject to US jurisdiction and should not get automatic citizenship.
Trump is trying to limit immigration, including expelling undocumented migrants and removing deportation protections from some nationals.
