The radar images showed a well‑preserved complex about one metre (three feet) below the surface. The scans highlighted the outlines of rooms, columns, cloisters and a church in the southern wing, and they identified an eastern wing with clearly defined rooms and vaulted pillars.

St. Clare's once covered roughly 230 feet by 230 feet. Although the convent was demolished in the 16th century and most of its bricks were taken away, the foundations built from large boulders survived underground, allowing the radar to pick up the lowest parts of walls and foundations.

Jesper Langkilde, an archaeologist and museum curator at ROMU, explained that the radar detected those lowest portions, demonstrating how much can be learned about a buried structure without any excavation.

The find shows how non‑invasive geophysical surveys can reveal hidden medieval sites, guide future research, and protect heritage while modern development proceeds.
