You can turn off Gemini if you're worried about privacy or don't need its features.

Here's how to turn it off.

First, open Gmail.

Then, go to Settings.

It looks like a cog icon.

Click 'See all settings'.

Scroll to 'Google Workspace smart features' in the General section.

Click 'Manage Workspace smart feature settings'.

Turn smart features on or off.

To turn off Gemini, toggle off 'Smart features in Google Workspace'. This also turns off AI for other Google tools. The second toggle turns off Gemini for other Google products.

Click 'Save' at the bottom right.

To turn Gemini back on, follow the same steps. It's up to you.

Turning off Gemini removes the 'Help me write' prompt and other AI features. The '/' key won't trigger Gemini anymore.

But you'll still see the sparkle icon in your emails.

If you click the icon or use the 'Help me write' shortcut, you'll get a message saying you need to turn on Gmail smart features to use Gemini.
