Stop washing pillows and duvets in the machine, try this easy way

You don't need a washing machine to clean bedding.

Duvets and pillows are hard to wash. But now is a good time to clean them. There's a simple way to do it.

Steven Szary says to use the sun to clean your duvet.

Leave your duvet in the sun for a few hours. Do it when the sun is not too strong. A little sun is good for killing bad bacteria.

The sun's light can kill bacteria and dust mites in your quilt and pillows.

Your bedding can get dirty with sweat and dust. You need to air it out to stop mold from growing.

You can put your pillows on an airer outside.

Hanging your duvet outside helps get rid of old smells and makes it feel fresh. Timing and weather are important.

Choose a sunny day to air your duvet. If it's cloudy or rainy, it won't work as well.

Take your duvet outside in the late afternoon. The sun won't be too strong then.

Shake your duvet and pillows before hanging them up. Then gently hit the fabric.

This helps the duvet fibers come apart and stops the filling from bunching up.

You can hang your duvet on a clothesline or put it on a rack or fence. Just make sure it's secure.

You can put your pillows on an airer or a clean surface outside.
