Jay Clayton, the director of national intelligence, has been appointed by President Trump as the administration’s artificial‑intelligence czar and will lead the newly created Super Intelligence Force (SIF).
The SIF task force has a tight deadline: it must deliver a comprehensive report within 120 days, evaluating both the risks and the opportunities that AI presents and recommending how the federal government should act.
Trump said the purpose of the force is to make sure America continues to lead the world in what he calls “Super Intelligence” and to protect U.S. interests and improve the lives of all Americans.
Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, Clayton warned, “The risk of not being first is high,” underscoring the administration’s view that early leadership in AI is a strategic priority.
The task force brings together senior officials: FTC chair Andrew Ferguson, Pentagon chief technology officer Emil Michael, and Office of Personnel Management director Scott Kupor. Their work will report directly to the president and to White House chief of staff Susie Wiles.
By creating a high‑level body that combines intelligence, regulatory, defense and personnel expertise, the administration hopes to shape policy quickly, keep the United States at the forefront of AI development, and manage emerging safety concerns before they become crises.
