Construction of Terminal T2 at Phu Quoc International Airport is racing ahead, despite recent heavy rain, as the massive steel roof and glass façade near completion.

The terminal’s striking steel roof draws its design from the mythical “Fire Phoenix”, while about 9,500 unitized glass panels are being installed on the building’s exterior, giving the airport a modern, iconic look.

The expansion will raise the airport’s capacity to 20–24 million passengers each year by 2030, and later phases aim for a total of 50 million passengers annually, dramatically increasing the island’s ability to welcome travelers.

According to the Phu Quoc International Airport project management board, 7,671 workers and engineers are currently deployed across the T2 terminal, VIP terminal, catering facility, infrastructure, apron and Runway No. 2, reflecting the scale of the effort.

An automated baggage handling system, spanning three floors and more than 8 km, is about 60% complete and will be able to process roughly 7,560 departing and 6,300 arriving bags per hour, speeding up passenger flow.

The terminal is a key part of preparations for the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting scheduled for November 2027, positioning Phu Quoc as an international aviation gateway and a focal point for regional business gatherings.

With greater capacity, faster services, and a striking design, the new terminal is expected to attract more tourists and investors, strengthening Phu Quoc’s role as a leading tourism and business hub in Southeast Asia.
