How a PQ Minority Government Could Change Daily Life in Quebec
Parti Québécois lên ngôi: Thay đổi lớn chờ đợi người dân Quebec

CBC News projects that the sovereigntist Parti Québécois will form a minority government after the next election, meaning it will run the province without a clear majority in the National Assembly.
The party’s fiscal plan calls for a $6.6 billion cut in government spending over five years. PQ leader Paul St‑Pierre Plamondon says the savings will be redirected to health‑care and education.
To give immediate relief to households, the PQ promises to eliminate the provincial sales tax on second‑hand goods, temporarily halve the gasoline tax, and expand benefits under Quebec’s parental insurance plan.
On immigration, the PQ wants to cap permanent newcomers at 35,000 per year, a drop from roughly 60,000 the previous year, and also reduce non‑permanent immigration quotas.
The party also plans to tighten French language rules. It would extend the Charter of the French Language to CEGEPs and to children of non‑permanent residents who have lived in Quebec for more than 12 months, and require that 10 % of the grade on every school assignment be based on the quality of French used.
If these measures become law, Quebecers could pay less tax on used items and fuel, see more funding for hospitals and schools, encounter stricter language requirements in classrooms, and notice fewer new permanent residents arriving each year.
