The air ambulance was flying from Bermuda to Boston on Saturday. Early in the flight the pilot told air‑traffic control that the plane had electrical problems and declared an emergency. Soon after, the aircraft lost contact.
The U.S. Coast Guard launched a search covering about 7,000 kilometres of ocean. After days of searching, they found debris 32 kilometres off the coast of Nantucket.
The Coast Guard announced that all six people on board have been identified. The four Canadian crew members are Philip Gregory Childerhose, Thomas Henry Farquhar, Sarah Jane Paton and Jolene Beth Weir. The two passengers from Bermuda are Marilyn Lavonne Bean and Sergio Wayne Lottimore.
On Sunday the Coast Guard stopped the active search and changed to recovery work. This means they will focus on finding remains and helping families, rather than looking for a missing plane.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada will lead the investigation into the crash. Canadian and U.S. authorities will work together to learn what caused the accident.
