Kenyan authorities confirmed that a Kenyan citizen who traveled from Congo through Uganda tested positive for Ebola at Nairobi Hospital and died there. The patient had lived in Congo for seven years and arrived in Kenya on Saturday.
Health Minister Aden Duale said the patient was isolated and treated immediately. Twenty‑eight contacts, including family members and health workers, have been identified, and 23 other passengers from the same flight are being traced. All contacts will stay in isolation for 21 days and will be released only after testing negative.
Duale also noted that Kenya has trained nearly 5,000 health workers on Ebola prevention and management. Since May, 267 samples have been examined in five laboratories across the country. All border points have been placed on high alert and are being monitored for any additional cases.
The current outbreak, declared in mid‑May in eastern Congo, has recorded at least 8,400 cases and more than 4,000 deaths, making it the fastest‑growing Ebola outbreak in history. Kenya is the fourth country to report a case in this outbreak.
The swift isolation, extensive contact tracing, and nationwide training illustrate how Kenya is applying public‑health protocols to protect its population and prevent further spread.
