The aircraft was a Gulfstream G100 operated by Latitude Air Ambulance, flying from Bermuda to Boston on Saturday morning. The U.S. Coast Guard later confirmed that the jet was lost near Nantucket and released the names of the four Canadians on board.
The crew consisted of Captain Philip Gregory Childerhose of Oakville, Ontario; First Officer Thomas Henry Farquhar of Brantford, Ontario; flight nurse Sarah Jane Paton, a Niagara Health intensive‑care nurse; and respiratory therapist Jolene Beth Weir.
Canada’s Transportation Safety Board (TSB) will lead the investigation because the jet is registered in Canada. Early indications suggest a possible fault in the aircraft’s electrical system, though the exact cause remains unknown.
After more than 24 hours of searching a 11,500‑square‑kilometre area, the Coast Guard called off the operation, and the four crew members are now presumed dead.
The loss highlights the vital role of medical air‑ambulance teams, who combine aviation skill with health‑care expertise to reach patients in remote locations. Their disappearance underscores the risks these professionals face while delivering life‑saving care.
