On October 8, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced that seven drivers were caught providing illegal cross‑border ride‑hailing services at Singapore’s land checkpoints, and all seven vehicles were impounded.
Since July 2025, more than 5,400 vehicles have been inspected at the borders, resulting in 254 cars being impounded, Senior Minister of State for Transport Sun Xueling said in a Facebook post on Thursday.
Offenders face penalties of up to S$3,000 in fines, up to six months in jail, or both, and their vehicles may be forfeited, according to the LTA.
The authority warns that illegal services threaten passenger safety and hurt the earnings of local point‑to‑point drivers, urging travellers to book only licensed cross‑border options such as Grab or authorised cross‑border taxis.
Members of the public can report suspected illegal cross‑border ride‑hailing activities through LTA’s online reporting portal.
By tightening enforcement, the government aims to protect commuters from unsafe rides while preserving the livelihood of legitimate taxi and private‑hire drivers.
