At 9 am on Friday, the west recorded a 1‑hour PM2.5 level of 126 µg/m³, down from 152 µg/m³ an hour earlier. Across the island, readings ranged from 84 in the north to 137 in the central and southern areas, with the east at 114 µg/m³.
The 24‑hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) for central Singapore jumped to 170 at the same time – the highest reading recorded in the country this year. Other regions posted PSI values between 115 and 164, all within the unhealthy range.
PM2.5 levels are grouped into four bands. An “elevated” reading falls between 56 and 150 µg/m³, while a “high” reading lies between 151 and 250 µg/m³.
NEA advises checking the hourly PM2.5 before stepping out. When it is elevated, healthy people should limit strenuous activity for the next hour; vulnerable groups should avoid outdoor activity altogether.
For planning activities the following day, the agency recommends using the 24‑hour PSI forecast and its accompanying health advisories.
The haze is driven by moderate to dense smoke plumes from southern and central Sumatra and West Kalimantan, which have been observed drifting toward Singapore. With prevailing southeasterly or southerly winds, the smoke is expected to continue affecting the island.
