Thanh Mai, 28, works in an office and earns about $694 each month. She watches shopping livestreams every evening for fun.
She planned to spend only $31 on kitchen items, but the livestream offers and discounts led her to place 13 orders worth more than $123.
That amount is almost 18% of her salary. Even though discount codes saved her $62, she spent about $92 more than she intended.
Mai had set a monthly savings goal of $116, but after the spree she could save only $22.
Financial specialist Pham Thu Trang advises shoppers to evaluate every purchase, ask if they would still buy it without a discount, and wait 24 hours before ordering.
She also recommends setting a clear budget for non‑essential items and keeping money for daily needs separate from money for shopping.
Mai’s story shows how easy it is to overspend during discount‑heavy livestreams, and how simple budgeting steps can protect savings.
