At 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sep 10, the 24‑hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) recorded 174 in central Singapore, 160 in the west, 156 in the east, 135 in the south and 124 in the north, all of which fall into the unhealthy bracket.
The day before, the central PSI rose to 192, marking a new high for this year’s haze season and showing how quickly conditions can worsen.
The government’s Haze Task Force has clear contingency plans: N95 masks and medical assistance are made available, schools may be closed when the 24‑hour PSI exceeds 300, and outdoor activities are suspended once the PSI passes 200.
Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu said Singapore stands ready to assist Indonesia and is monitoring the haze ahead of the Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix.
Indonesia’s forest fires have burned nearly 896,000 ha by the end of August, creating the smoke that is driving the haze over Singapore.
These measures aim to protect residents’ health, keep schools and workplaces safe, and ensure that public events such as the Grand Prix can continue with appropriate precautions.
