Shai Gilgeous‑Alexander, an NBA champion and guard for the Oklahoma City Thunder, announced that he has joined the ownership group of Atletico Madrid. He is from Hamilton, Ontario.

The move makes Gilgeous‑Alexander the latest North American sports star to take a stake in a soccer club. He follows LeBron James and Tom Brady, who also own parts of football teams.

LeBron James became a part‑owner of Fenway Sports Group, the company that owns the Boston Red Sox and Liverpool FC. Tom Brady is a minority owner of Birmingham City in England.

Atletico Madrid said the partnership is "grounded in shared values: ambition, excellence and the belief that every result must be earned."

The club also said Gilgeous‑Alexander’s investment shows his interest in the club’s long‑term vision and international growth. Atletico did not reveal how large his stake is.
