The streaming giant confirmed an eight‑episode, hour‑long series that will pick up where the 2018 film left off. Constance Wu, Henry Golding and Michelle Yeoh will reprise their roles, and filming is scheduled to begin in 2027.

The original movie was a cultural milestone. It featured the first all‑Asian cast in a major Hollywood production since The Joy Luck Club (1993) and earned more than $239 million worldwide on a $30 million budget.

By moving the story to television, the creators gain more time to develop characters and settings, which can showcase Asian talent beyond a single film. Kevin Kwan, director Jon M. Chu and producers Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson return as executive producers, and the series is co‑produced by HBO and Warner Bros. Television, signalling strong industry backing.
