At least four people died as Hurricane Isaias made landfall, and roughly 800,000 residents in Florida, Alabama and Georgia lost electricity. In response, the governors of Florida, Alabama and Georgia each declared a state of emergency.
PowerOutage.us reported that more than 430,000 customers were without power in Florida, over 280,000 in Alabama and about 100,000 in Georgia. Governor Ron DeSantis said about 16,000 utility linemen were on standby to begin repairs.
The National Hurricane Center warned that storm surges, flash flooding, damaging winds and a risk of tornadoes remained across parts of the three states.
Restoring electricity quickly became the top priority. DeSantis added that crews would assess damage early each morning to speed up restoration, while officials reminded residents to stay alert for lingering hazards.
Isaias was a Category 2 hurricane, the first storm of the 2026 Atlantic season, but it rapidly lost wind speed after striking the Florida coast, according to the National Hurricane Center.
