On Tuesday, Oct 13, the 24‑hour PSI across Singapore stayed in the unhealthy range, with readings between 127 and 172, according to NEA data released at 9 am.
The 1‑hour PM2.5 level in the southern region was normal at 50, but other regions recorded values from 66 to 119, showing elevated particles throughout most of the island.
NEA’s Monday evening advisory said scattered fire hotspots were detected in Kalimantan and southern Sumatra, producing trans‑boundary smoke that now covers Singapore and parts of southern Peninsular Malaysia.
The agency added that it is closely monitoring the situation and collecting information on the hotspots under the Transboundary Haze Pollution Act, which governs investigations of cross‑border haze sources.
Unhealthy PSI and PM2.5 levels can aggravate respiratory problems, especially for children, the elderly and people with pre‑existing conditions, making the haze a public‑health concern.
In response, Health Minister Ong Ye Kung announced that subsidised treatment for haze‑related conditions is now available at Public Health Preparedness Clinics and polyclinics. All Singaporeans can claim the subsidy at polyclinics, while PHPCs will limit it to groups such as children and seniors.
The new subsidies aim to lower the cost of medical care for those affected while the haze persists, giving residents a practical way to manage health risks.
