On October 12, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Hang met John Goyer, vice‑president for Southeast Asia at the US Chamber of Commerce, in Hanoi. They discussed the growing Vietnam‑US economic ties and the preparations for APEC Year 2027.

Hang reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with the United States, stressing the need for stable, balanced and sustainable economic and trade cooperation. She said the partnership should become more substantive and effective.

Regarding the 2027 APEC summit, Hang explained that a key objective is to strengthen connectivity, broaden participation and encourage meaningful private‑sector contributions. Vietnam hopes strong US business involvement will help achieve these goals, especially during the Economic Leaders’ Week, CEO Summit and sectoral ministerial meetings.

Hang asked the US Chamber of Commerce to act as a bridge, urging US companies to expand investment, business operations and cooperation in Vietnam, particularly in science, technology and innovation. Goyer praised Vietnam’s proactive and urgent APEC preparations and said the USCC stands ready to work with Vietnam to ensure the summit’s success.

Both sides expressed confidence that negotiations on a reciprocal trade agreement will soon be concluded, which would foster balanced, sustainable and mutually beneficial Vietnam‑US economic ties. The meeting shows why Vietnam is urging US businesses to take a leading role in APEC 2027.
