The Saigon River in Ho Chi Minh City will be closed for a few days in October. The closure is needed to install the main steel arch of a new pedestrian bridge, and it affects anyone who moves boats on the river.
According to the department, waterway traffic will be suspended on October 19 from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm, and on October 21 and 22 from 2:00 am to 6:00 pm. The closure allows barges to move the bridge’s main steel arch into position.
Vessel operators have been instructed to follow directions from traffic controllers, watch the navigation signs, and keep updated on any new restrictions. Traffic‑control stations will work upstream and downstream of the construction site until December 7 to keep the waterway safe. The pedestrian bridge costs about US$38 million (≈VND1 trillion), is about 90 percent finished, and is funded by Nutifood Nutrition Food JSC as a gift to the city. The main steel arch, weighing 3,400 metric tons, will be towed from Ghenh Rai Bay to Bach Dang Wharf for installation.
In short, the river will be closed on October 19, 21 and 22 at the times announced, and all boat crews must obey the traffic‑controller instructions. Following these rules will help avoid delays and keep everyone safe.
