Vietnam’s weather forecast for the next month shows hotter temperatures, much less rain and fewer storms, all of which could affect water use, farming and safety. Understanding these risks can help people adjust their daily routines and prepare for possible shortages.
Nguyen Duc Hoa, Deputy Head of the Climate Forecasting Division at the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, said average temperatures across Vietnam are expected to be 1‑2 °C above the long‑term average during the October 11‑November 10 period. In the north and from Thanh Hoa to Hue, the rise could reach 1.5‑2.5 °C.
The forecast also predicts that precipitation across the south‑central coastal region, the central highlands and southern Vietnam could be 20‑40 % below normal through the end of 2026. In contrast, the northern mountainous area and Lam Dong are expected to receive near‑average rain.
Between Ha Tĩnh and Quang Ngai, the outlook shows rainfall deficits of 40‑50 % compared with the same period in previous years. Such a shortfall could raise the risk of drought, water shortages and salt‑water intrusion, creating challenges for local communities and agricultural production.
Fewer tropical storms are expected, but the national meteorological agency warned that a storm or tropical depression could still affect mainland Vietnam. Historical data indicate an average of about 0.8 systems make landfall during this time of year.
Overall, higher temperatures, below‑average rain and a weaker storm season increase the chance of water scarcity and farming difficulties. Households and farmers should monitor updates and plan for tighter water resources.
