Buying a new laptop could become noticeably more expensive in 2027, as component costs keep climbing. TrendForce warns that this rise is likely to push retail prices up, a change that could affect your budgeting and upgrade plans.
CPU, DRAM and SSD together account for about 68% of a mainstream laptop’s component costs in the third quarter of 2026, according to TrendForce. Because these parts dominate the bill of materials, any price rise can quickly push overall laptop prices higher in 2027.
TrendForce also predicts that global laptop shipments may fall by a few percent to almost 10% in 2027 because higher prices could dampen demand. A slower market would mean fewer new models reaching stores.
Manufacturers will have to decide whether to raise prices, absorb the extra costs, or cut hardware specifications. Each option influences how affordable laptops remain and how strong consumer demand stays.
If prices rise, many buyers are expected to keep their current laptops longer, extending replacement cycles. This could help offset the shipment decline but also means you may wait longer before getting a newer device.
