Microsoft has laid off a number of employees in Vietnam. The cuts mainly hit the company's research and development (R&D) team, which makes the news important for anyone following the tech market.
The workers were told about the layoffs in a meeting called “important business update”. The meeting was held with company leaders and the human resources department, and it was reported on local social media.
A Microsoft spokesperson said the company always changes how it works to support future priorities. These changes can sometimes mean difficult decisions that affect jobs. The company also said it will help the affected employees with care and respect. Microsoft set up its R&D engineering team in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in 2024 to create Microsoft 365 solutions for global markets.
Microsoft did not give the exact number of staff or the specific jobs that were cut. The main reason given for the layoffs is the need to adjust operations to meet future priorities, while promising support for those leaving.
