Calibration flights are the final step before Long Thanh International Airport opens to passengers. They show how engineers verify that navigation and lighting systems work safely.

Attech, a subsidiary of Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation, operates a Beechcraft B300/B350 for runway 05R/23L inspections. The aircraft follows specially designed flight paths and performs specific maneuvers to check equipment coverage and accuracy.

On 12 October the test flight examined the instrument landing system and distance measuring equipment (ILS/DME), the precision approach path indicator (PAPI) lights, and other radio navigation aids. These checks confirm that pilots receive correct guidance and distance information during approach.

The following day, 13 October, the crew repeated the ILS/DME test and added a check of the approach lighting system (ALS). PAPI lights indicate the correct glide slope, while ALS helps pilots see the runway as they switch to visual approach.

Data gathered from both days is analysed to assess system accuracy, operational performance, and the coordination among air‑traffic‑control, technical and meteorological personnel. The results ensure the new airport will be ready for safe landings when it begins operations.
