City officials said Ho Chi Minh City needs a 13.23% growth rate in the fourth quarter to hit its 10.2% target for 2026. The city accounts for 23.4% of Vietnam’s GDP and about 30% of national budget revenue, making its performance crucial for the nation.
City data showed the GRDP grew 9.06% in the first nine months, the strongest in over a decade. However, officials warned that growth must accelerate sharply in the final three months to stay on track for the annual goal.
Figures presented at the meeting indicated the city aims to collect VND1 quadrillion in state budget revenue. It had collected VND676.9 trillion in the first nine months, equal to 84.2% of the central estimate and about 67% of its own target, so more revenue is needed in Q4.
Authorities reported that nearly 1,340 projects face obstacles, and that 669 of them have been resolved, leaving roughly half still pending. Removing these barriers is listed as a priority to keep investment and construction flowing.
The ability of Ho Chi Minh City to meet its growth and revenue targets will directly affect Vietnam’s overall economic outlook. Because the city contributes a large share of GDP and budget revenue, its success or shortfall can shape the country’s future prosperity.
