Jeff Bezos says AI could let a single earner support a family while working only three days a week. This idea could change how many households plan their income and work life.

In an interview with Fox News on Oct. 7, Bezos said, “Some people will decide, ‘I can support my family working three days a week.’ That’s what productivity in the economy means.” He added that AI could make single‑income households possible, allowing one partner to stop working if they choose.

Bezos argued that the boost in productivity could create labor shortages rather than the massive job losses some experts fear. He said hiring will become difficult because people won’t need to work two jobs to earn enough.

At Prometheus, the AI startup Bezos co‑founded and co‑CEO, the goal is to build an “artificial general engineer” that makes turning ideas into products easy for anyone. He believes the tools will be simple enough for anyone to act like an engineer.

Amazon, the company Bezos founded, has cut about 30,000 corporate jobs over the past year and plans to spend more than US$200 billion on capital investments for AI data centers. Bezos’ net worth was estimated at $380.8 billion on Oct. 12, making him the world’s second‑richest person.
