Da Nang is rapidly upgrading its flood‑control system after the 2022 deluge. The city’s new works will affect how safely residents can live, travel and stay healthy during heavy rain.

According to the municipal Department of Construction, three of the twelve major drainage and flood‑control projects have been completed, while the remaining nine are scheduled for completion by 2027. The finished works include upgrading drainage around Da Nang International Airport, a second‑phase upgrade of the Ong Ich Khiem pumping station, and a drainage pipeline from Phu Loc Canal to Nguyen Tat Thanh Street.

The department also noted that existing urban drainage can normally cope with about 50‑60 mm of rain per hour in older neighborhoods and roughly 70 mm per hour in newer developments. When rainfall exceeds these levels, localized flooding becomes highly likely.

To improve preparedness, the city is creating flood maps for four rainfall scenarios and is linking data from surveillance cameras, pumping stations and rainfall monitors. This integrated system is meant to support real‑time operational decisions that protect residents.

The department said blocked drainage inlets and rubbish dumping reduce water flow, so it is dredging and cleaning inlets, channels, sediment traps and regulating lakes. The cleaning work is targeted for completion in October 2026.

Together, the new infrastructure, flood‑mapping and cleaning programmes aim to lower flood risk for homes, roads and public health. Residents can expect a safer, drier city during the next rainy seasons.
