What Vietnam Can Learn from England’s Indoor Smoking Ban
Bài học từ lệnh cấm hút thuốc trong nhà ở Anh
Nguồn: Tuoitre
Vietnam is preparing a new rule that will ban indoor smoking in hotels, bars, karaoke venues and other public places. The rule will be introduced step by step, so the article explains why this plan matters.
Subhajeet Chatterji, an English teacher living in Vietnam, points to England’s indoor smoking ban in 2007. He said that after the ban, people simply smoked outside and the pubs and bars kept working as usual.
Chatterji says the Vietnamese plan will work best if the government gives clear messages, enforces the rule fairly, and allows enough time for businesses to get ready. He calls these steps essential for success.
He also warns that workers should not have to choose between their job and breathing clean air. Chatterji suggests that a good compromise is to create safe outdoor smoking zones while indoor bans are being set up.
