Da Nang’s Plan to Turn Short Stays into Bigger Spending
Đà Nẵng: Kế hoạch biến khách lưu trú ngắn thành nguồn thu lớn

Da Nang is trying to turn its short‑stay tourists into longer, higher‑spending visitors. The city’s new plan shows how a destination can use tailored experiences to grow tourism revenue.
In the first nine months of 2026 the city welcomed nearly 7.7 million international overnight visitors, a rise of more than 28 percent compared with the previous year. Yet the average stay was still under two days per trip, prompting officials to look for ways to lengthen visits.
To attract different markets, Da Nang is developing specialised products. South Korean guests are being offered golf packages, Indian tourists are targeted with wedding tourism, and Russian and CIS travelers are encouraged to combine beach time with wellness services. In the first half of 2026 the city recorded almost 175 000 rounds of golf, up 5.6 percent YoY, hosted 101 MICE groups that brought over 28 400 visitors, and organised 28 international wedding events. Arrivals from Russia and CIS countries reached 411 000 in eight months, a 94.2 percent increase.
Ho Ky Minh, standing vice‑chairman of the Da Nang administration, said the strategy is to move away from simply counting visitors. He explained that linking beach tourism with golf, cuisine, cultural attractions, heritage sites and wellness services, and connecting Da Nang with Hoi An and Hue, will give tourists more reasons to stay longer and spend more.
Cao Thi Ngoc Lan, standing vice‑chairwoman of the Vietnam Tourism Association, echoed this view, stressing that natural attractions alone are not enough. She argued that success should be measured by the quality of travel experiences and the length of stays, not just by the number of business contacts.
