Vingroup’s Plan to Turn Local Suppliers into Global Partners

Kế hoạch của Vingroup: Biến nhà cung cấp nội địa thành đối tác toàn cầu

Nguồn: Tuoitre

On 16 October, Vingroup, Vietnam’s largest private conglomerate, hosted a conference in Hanoi to boost localisation and expand its supplier network. The event is significant because it shows how a big company can help local firms reach global markets.

The conference targeted businesses in technology, industrial manufacturing, mechanical engineering, fabrication, processing and software, aiming to broaden the range of sectors that can supply Vingroup’s projects. The goal is to create more opportunities for Vietnamese companies to become part of Vingroup’s projects at home and abroad.

According to vice‑chairwoman Thai Thi Thanh Hai, Vingroup chooses suppliers based on product quality, production capacity, the ability to guarantee stable deliveries and reasonable costs. In addition, every supplier must meet environmental and safety standards.

Vingroup can then offer several forms of assistance. These include consultancy, technical help, links to technology partners, product offtake agreements, and the possibility to lease land or factory space at discounted rates within its industrial parks.

Hai also noted major obstacles for many Vietnamese firms: gaps in technology, management skills, investment capital and the ability to satisfy international standards, especially in new fields such as automotive manufacturing and green energy. Research by the Ministry of Industry and Trade shows that only 18 percent of Vietnamese businesses are linked to global value chains, and most domestic output consists of simple, low‑technology parts.

The conference demonstrates Vingroup’s practical roadmap for turning local suppliers into internationally competitive partners, a model that could raise Vietnam’s share in global supply chains. It highlights how clear criteria and concrete support can help domestic firms move beyond low‑tech production.
