Super Typhoon Champi is moving northwest toward Taiwan, carrying sustained winds at level 16 and gusts above level 17. The storm’s path is important for anyone travelling or working near Vietnam’s coast because it may affect sea conditions.
Vietnam’s meteorologists say Champi is unlikely to enter the East Sea, with only a 10‑20 % chance of moving into the northeastern part. There is an 80‑90 % probability it will keep moving northwest, possibly affecting Taiwan and mainland China.
The storm’s outer circulation can still affect the northern East Sea. Forecasts show winds could rise to level 6‑10 and waves could reach 3‑5 metres between October 21 and October 24. Such conditions may be hazardous for boats and fishermen.
When Champi approaches Taiwan, it is expected to keep level‑15 winds with gusts above level 17, and then gradually weaken after October 21. The weakening does not remove the risk of strong gusts in nearby waters.
The National Center for Hydro‑Meteorological Forecasting is closely monitoring Champi and will update its forecasts as the storm develops. Keeping an eye on these updates is essential for safety on Vietnam’s coasts.
