TPBank’s latest financing agreement is worth reading because it links green investment with support for local entrepreneurs. The bank will receive a $50 million facility from DEG, a German development finance institution, to expand sustainable lending in Vietnam.
Under the agreement, $30 million will be allocated to eligible green projects, while $20 million will be directed to SMEs, especially women‑owned and women‑led businesses. This split shows a clear focus on both climate action and gender‑inclusive growth.
The deal also gives TPBank extra medium‑ and long‑term U.S.‑dollar funding, helping the bank diversify its international capital sources. This broader funding base can support more loan programmes for Vietnamese businesses.
DEG will provide technical assistance to improve TPBank’s Environmental and Social Risk Management System. The assistance covers internal policies, risk‑classification tools, credit‑appraisal procedures, monitoring practices and employee training. The partnership aims to improve access to capital for SMEs, support Vietnam’s climate objectives and align the bank’s operations with ESG standards.
The financing marks DEG’s second investment in TPBank, following an earlier partnership that targeted women‑owned businesses. By combining green financing with stronger ESG risk management, the deal creates new funding opportunities for Vietnamese SMEs, particularly those led by women.
