Why Vietnamese Workers Keep Returning Abroad
Vì sao người Việt lao động nước ngoài liên tục muốn quay lại?

Vietnamese workers who return home often find it difficult to stay, and many decide to go abroad again. Understanding the economic reasons behind this trend helps anyone thinking about their own career path.
According to a reader using the nickname fv2xwwbsbs, their sibling earned US$70,000‑77,000 a year in Australia while earning only VND10 million (US$386) a month in Vietnam. The huge difference makes low‑pay domestic jobs hard to accept.
An in‑depth report released by the Statistics Office in September found that 27% of surveyed returnees said they wanted to leave Vietnam again, preferring places where they had already worked. They often cite familiar environments and existing networks as reasons.
The Statistics Office data also show that 95% of returnees are employed in elementary occupations that require little technical expertise. Only about 5% hold professional or technical jobs, and just 3% are in high‑skilled positions.
Many workers say domestic pay is far lower than overseas pay, making it hard to accept jobs that pay only a few hundred dollars a month. As a result, the combination of low wages and few skilled opportunities pushes a large share of Vietnamese workers to seek employment abroad again.
