Police have prosecuted the owner of a shop called TOP 98 in Dong Nai City for allegedly selling fake Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Dior clothing worth about VND232 million (US$8,979). This case shows why shoppers and small business owners should pay attention to counterfeit goods.
The police inspected the shop on April 30 Street in Trang Bom Ward on July 28 and seized a large amount of clothing that looked like counterfeit Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Dior and other protected brands. The seized items were valued at VND232 million.
Investigators said the trading showed signs of a criminal offence and they started criminal proceedings for infringement of industrial property rights. Police also warned businesses not to produce, trade, transport or store counterfeit goods, and told consumers to check where products come from before buying.
Trang Bom Ward police asked anyone who bought counterfeit items from TOP 98 to contact the authorities for help. The main message is to verify product origins to avoid problems with fake branded clothing.
