Vietnam’s fuel market has shifted this week: E10 RON95 gasoline fell 6.7% to VND25,210 per litre, and diesel rose 1.5% to VND29,550. At the same time, the government is preparing a decree that will change how retail prices are announced.
E5 RON92 also dropped, falling 5.7% to VND25,360 per litre. The opposite move for diesel means drivers of motorbikes and cars may see lower gasoline costs but higher diesel expenses, affecting daily travel budgets.
According to the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Finance, the global average price of RON95 gasoline fell 8.4% to $133.50 a barrel in the last seven days, while the world price of diesel rose 1.8% to $168 a barrel. These international trends are reported alongside the local price changes.
The pending decree aims to cut intermediaries in fuel trading. It will stop regular government announcements of base prices, and instead require major fuel traders and distributors to set retail prices within their own networks using a prescribed formula, then declare those prices for inspection.
For consumers, the new system could mean that fuel prices are set more directly by traders, potentially leading to clearer price signals but also making the final cost depend on each network’s formula. Watching how the decree is applied will be key to understanding future fuel expenses.
