Trump told reporters outside the White House, “We would have it to talk about nuclear weapons and denuclearisation… If President Xi wants to have it, I’d have it. I’m sure we’d talk about other things like trade too.” This shows his personal willingness to bring the three leaders together.

Analysts note that a three‑way meeting could lower global tensions, yet it might also raise alarm across Europe and Asia. Critics fear private deals could weaken Washington’s trans‑Atlantic and Indo‑Pacific alliances.

In recent days Trump has moved to warm ties with Putin, announcing a diesel‑fuel deal and signing an order waiving key sanctions on Moscow. He has also sought stable relations with Xi. The White House has been discussing a possible denuclearisation meeting on the sidelines of the Nov. 18‑19 APEC summit in China, and Putin has suggested using such a meeting to negotiate an end to the Ukraine conflict that would favour Moscow.

Russia holds the largest nuclear stockpile, followed by the United States and China, according to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute. Existing arms‑control treaties have expired or need extension, so any trilateral dialogue could have a major impact on nuclear stability.
